Kendy Paul

Age: 12
Ecole Baptiste Conservatrice of Soissons

About me:

Bonjour! My name is Kendy Paul. My birthday is November 22, 2006. My mother sells produce from the garden. My father is a part time stone mason. I have 0 brother(s) and 2 sister(s).

About my country:

I live in the beautiful country of Haiti, which is located on the western side of the Caribbean island of Hispaniola. Because of its tropical climate, Haiti is hot and humid for the majority of the year, with the mountain regions experiencing cooler temperatures and seasonal weather variation.

Haiti ranks as the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere, and over two-thirds of the population is currently unemployed. The economy has suffered from extensive deforestation and an infrastructure stressed by the nine million people on the island. Despite this, Haiti is able to sustain a steady export of apparel, oils, cocoa, mangoes, and coffee. Haitian Creole and French are the most common languages spoken across the country, and voodoo beliefs are embedded in the culture.

Since its discovery by Columbus in 1492, Haiti has built a strong culture with a rich history and unique traditions. I would love for you to do some research about my country, and write me a letter about what you learn. I love my country, and I know you’ll love it too.

More about BHM:

In 1943, Wallace and Eleanor Turnbull began the Baptist Haiti Mission, located in the mountains of Kenscoff, at one time a highly underdeveloped area of Haiti. For over 75 years, Baptist Haiti Mission has worked to share the gospel of Jesus Christ throughout Haiti through working with local churches. The BHM mission remains strong as they continue to work with the people of Haiti through building schools, sponsoring children, training teachers, operating a Hospital, and engaging in other trades.
